Throughout 2015-16, the Elan Valley has been host to a group of eleven artists from different backgrounds and disciplines who have been invited by Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and Arts Council of Wales to explore the 70 square miles of the catchment that serves the six reservoirs.

APT Elan (Artists, Place and Time) has been the project’s working title with the idea that its unique context can ‘give space to better thinking’, encouraging a period of creative engagement with the Elan environment. The artists’ activity is feeding into possibilities for a more sustained programme of artists’ interaction at Elan in the future.

This autumn a free programme of events gives people the opportunity to meet some of the artists and hear about their experiences, their findings and their reflections in this special landscape.

Perspectives 2

Saturday, 26 November: 12.30pm-3.30pm (meet at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre) Three contemporary artists who work with different questions of landscape share their experiences and ideas from time spent in the Elan valley.

Morag Colquhoun: Morag discusses interconnectedness – of rare bees, hill farming, biochar and Amazonia – and floats the idea of an ecology of mind.

Mike Perry: Mike discusses the impact of environmental issues on his artistic process, and how this ‘creative tension’ affected his ideas.

Simon Whitehead: Simon will talk about walking at night, the disappearing resources of the darkness and the ecologies of uncertainty …

Canfyddiadau: cyfres o sgyrsiau a digwyddiadau gydag artistiaid

Drwy gydol 2015-16, croesawodd Cwm Elan un ar ddeg artist o wahanol gefndiroedd a disgyblaethau drwy wahoddiad Dwr Cymru a Chyngor Celfyddydau Cymru i archwilio’r ardal 70 milltir sgwâr sy’n gwasanaethu’r chwe chronfa ddwr.

APTElan (Amser/Parth/Tyst) fu teitl gweithiol y prosiect; sail y syniad yw bod y cyd-destun unigryw yn cynnig lle i feddwl yn well gan annog ymgysylltiad creadigol â Chwm Elan. Mae’n bosibl y bydd gwaith yr artistiaid yn cynnal rhaglen gyson o waith yno yn y dyfodol.

Yr hydref hwn, bydd rhaglen weithgareddau rhad ac am ddim yn cynnig cyfle i bobl gwrdd â rhai o’r artistiaid a chlywed am eu profiadau, eu canfyddiadau a’u myfyrdodau a ddaw o’r dirwedd arbennig hon.

Canfyddiadau 2

Dydd Sadwrn, 26 Tachwedd: 12.30pm-3.30pm

(cwrdd yng Nghanolfan Ymwelwyr Cwm Elan)

Bydd tri artist cyfoes sydd â barn wahanol am y dirwedd yn rhannu’u profiadau o’u hamser yn y Cwm.

Morag Colquhoun: Trafodaeth am gysylltiadau – rhwng gwenyn prin, ffermio mynydd, golosg biolegol, Coedwig Amason – ac yn ystyried y syniad fod yna ecoleg i’r meddwl.

Mike Perry: Bydd yn trafod yr effaith mae materion amgylcheddol yn ei gael ar y broses artistig a sut mae ‘tyndra greadigol’ yn dylanwadu ei syniadau.

Simon Whitehead: Sgwrs am gerdded liw nos, adnoddau diflanedig y tywyllwch ac ecoleg ansicrwydd …
