GWELEDIGAETH

Y Gronfa Ddŵr: Partneriaid
Mae partneriaeth rhwng Cyngor y Celfyddydau a Dŵr Cymru yn sefydlu rhaglen breswyl ac yn creu canolfan ar gyfer y gwaith hwn yng Nghwm Elan. Hoffai Dŵr Cymru weld safleoedd hynod sensitif bwthyn a byngalo Pen y Garreg yn cael eu hailwampio, at ddibenion cynnig rhaglen breswyl yno ar gyfer yr hirdymor.

Isafonydd – is-elfennau:

Mae pedair thema gysylltiol yn crisialu cyfoeth a chymhlethdod diwylliannol yr amgylchedd hudolus hwn: • Tir – rhwydweithiau cymdeithasol, diwylliannol ac economaidd yr ardal leol a thu hwnt
• Dŵr – estheteg, gwleidyddiaeth ddiwylliannol a rheoli adnoddau naturiol
• Hanes – treftadaeth ddiwydiannol, gwaddol hynny a naratif newydd

• Cymdeithas – rhyngberthynas rhwng gŵyl a gwaith, gwledig a threfol

Hoffai’r partneriaid weld gofod sy’n cynnig cyfle i artistiaid gnoi cil ar eu gwaith, datblygu eu gwaith ymhellach, cyflwyno gwaith o’r gorffennol ac o bosib cyflwyno’r broses a chreu gwaith newydd, wedi’i sbarduno gan gyd- destun Cwm Elan fel:
Llecyn gweddol unig ac anghysbell gyda thirwedd werthfawr;

Llecyn sy’n cynnwys adnodd gwerthfawr yn fyd-eang – dŵr a’i stiwardiaeth;
Llecyn hanesyddol yng nghyd-destun Cymru a thu hwnt;
Llecyn arloesol, o gampweithiau peirianneg Oes Fictoria hyd heddiw;
Llecyn pwysig o ran gwaith cynaliadwy ac adfywio trwy weithgareddau hamdden;
Llecyn sy’n agored i syniadau newydd am gynaliadwyedd, cyfrifoldeb amgylcheddol a dulliau newydd a chyfrifol o fyw a gweithio.

Ar ben hynny, bydd y pwyslais ar artistiaid yn:
Sicrhau budd i’r cyhoedd trwy ymgysylltu â defnyddwyr Cwm Elan, gweithwyr yr ystâd a gweithwyr dŵr,

cymunedau cyfagos Cwm Elan, ac ymwelwyr;
Sail i gyfres o gysylltiadau cydweithredol pellgyrhaeddol sy’n dangos cysylltiadau â’r gymuned, Addysg Uwch a sefydliadau celf ac amgylcheddol eraill yma yng Nghymru, y DU a thu hwnt.

Bydd y partneriaid yn:
Sefydlu rhaglen sy’n seiliedig ar breswylfeydd artistiaid o bwys rhyngwladol, sy’n gweithredu’n lleol, yn genedlaethol ac yn rhyngwladol, ond o safbwynt a lleoliad myfyriol, ysbrydoledig sy’n cynnig camau a syniadau newydd.

Llifeiriant: Preswylfeydd Artistiaid

Mae APTElan wedi’i gynllunio’n benodol i hwyluso a meithrin cydweithrediad, deialog a chyfnewid syniadau creadigol ar draws a thu hwnt i’r celfyddydau. Dyma rai o egwyddorion arweiniol y preswylfeydd:

Creu cyfleoedd i artistiaid ddatblygu eu crefft mewn amgylchedd cefnogol gyda stiwdio a llety, deunyddiau ac adnoddau – heb unrhyw gylch gorchwyl caeth na chanlyniadau penodol;

Datblygu meddwl beirniadol ac ymestyn ffiniau cysyniadol a geirfa gwaith yr artist trwy ymgysylltu â’r amgylchedd uniongyrchol – boed yn gymdeithasol, daearyddol neu wleidyddol, neu gyfuniad ohonynt a llawer o ffactorau penodedig eraill sy’n amlwg yn niwylliant lle;

Ceisio ymwreiddio ffordd o feddwl yr artist/cynhyrchydd creadigol mewn ffordd gydberthynol gyda grwpiau ac unigolion o fewn cyd-destun cymunedol ehangach Cwm Elan y comisiynwyd yr artist i weithio gyda nhw.

VISION

The Reservoir: The Partners
Arts Council of Wales partnering Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is setting up a residency programme and creating a base for this activity in the Elan Valley. Welsh Water are interested in refurbishing particular sensitive sites of the Pen y Garreg cottage and Bungalow for this purpose of housing a residency programme on prospectively a long term basis.

The Tributaries

Four interlinking themes encapsulate the cultural richness and complexity of this evocative environment:

• Land – social, cultural and economic networks of the local area and beyond
• Water – aesthetics, cultural politics and natural resource management
• History – industrial heritage, legacies and new narratives

• Society – work, leisure and rural/urban interrelationships

The partners want to achieve a space where artists can reflect on their work, formulate further developments of their work, present past work, and possibly present the process and creation of new work, stimulated by the context of the Elan Valley as:
• A place of relative rural isolation and seclusion and a precious landscape;

• A place of a globally precious commodity, water, and its stewardship;
• A place of history within and out of Wales;
• A place of ingenuity and feats of engineering from the Victorian age into the present;
• A place of vital sustaining work and regenerative leisure;
• A place which can open up ideas of sustainability, environmental responsibility and new and responsible ways of being and living.

And in addition, via this focus for artists:

Provide public benefit via engagement with the users of the Elan Valley, estate and water workers, the Elan Valley’s immediate communities, and the visitors;

Provide the basis for a series of collaborative far-reaching relationships demonstrating linkages with communities, with Higher Education, with other arts and environmental organisations within Wales, the UK and further afield.

The partners will:
Establish a programme based around artists’ residencies which will have international standing, acting both locally, nationally and globally, but from a place of reflection, inspiration and fresh perceptions and action.

The Flow: Artists’ Residencies

APTElan is specifically designed to facilitate and foster collaboration, creative exchange and dialogue across and beyond the arts. The residencies have some guiding principles:

To create opportunities for artists to develop their own practice in a supportive environment with studio and living accommodation, materials and equipment, without any prescriptive terms of reference or determined

outcomes;

To develop critical thinking and extend the conceptual parameters and vocabulary of the artist’s work by engaging with the immediate environment – whether that be social, geographical or political, or a combination of these – and many other determining factors that foreground the culture of place;

To seek to embed the thinking of the artist/creative producer in a mutually symbiotic way with groups and individuals within the wider Elan community contexts in which s/he has been commissioned to work.
